Resume tips for Ontario job seekers

Tailor your resume to each job

Match your language to the job posting keywords.

Lead with a strong summary

2–3 lines on who you are and what you bring.

Use bullet points with numbers

"Increased sales by 20%" beats "Responsible for sales."

Keep it to 1–2 pages

Unless you have 15+ years of relevant experience.

Include a LinkedIn URL

Keep it up to date and consistent with your resume.

No photos, no personal info

DOB, SIN, marital status — never include these.

Common interview questions — how to answer

Q: Tell me about yourself.

Use the Present–Past–Future formula: current role → relevant background → why this job.

Q: Why do you want to leave?

Always stay positive. Focus on growth and new opportunity, not complaints.

Q: What are your weaknesses?

Give a real one paired with how you're actively improving it.

Q: What are your salary expectations?

Research the market first. Give a range, not a single number. It's okay to negotiate.
